Ronald Crane reports from The Dell Stadium
On a fine Saturday afternoon, The Robins made the trip to The Dell in Brierley Hill for a Saturday Vase First Round match. The home of Duncan Edwards certainly suited them. Eleven goals, with six scorers, tells its own story.
Nathan Corry, having returned to The Robins, really enjoyed himself with five goals. At first, I thought one of his was an own goal, but discussion afterwards confirmed that it was infact his score.
Together with new boy Dennis Yovchev, Dylon Bennett ran the mid-field. Christian McArdle not only marshalled the defence but managed to score as well. The Robins were superior in every department. Olympic ran with enthusiasm but, were totally outclassed. Still: they never gave up and continued to try and play football. Although well beaten, they did manage a late goal as The Robins took their foot off the pedal.
The damage was done in a five- minute spell just prior to the break. Three goals scored in almost as many minutes, did the job.
For the record, as well as Christian McArdle and Nathan Corry, George Seeley scored one, Jack Mullen two, Dennis Yovchev and Myles Mason one each. Kieron Edwards and Callum Wyatt netted for PS.
At the end, Robins’ Joint Manager was philosophical; pleased with the result and the score-line obviously, but disappointed that so many chances were squandered and worried about a leg injury to Jack Mullen. It remains to be seen how serious this is.
Saturday 22nd October is another Cup match, this time in the Les James Cup. Sutton Rangers are the visitors to the Draintech Community Stadium, KO 1500.
