Ronald Crane reports from the Valley Stadium
Man of the Match Callum Burston-Keeley scored with twenty-six seconds on the clock, and again on eighty minutes to clinch three points for The Robins in this table topping fixture.
In-between we were treated to an absorbing mid-field battle, with the visitors having the better of attacking opportunities. In fact, United could only manage two shots on target, one of which demanded a top notch save from keeper Oscar Slater. At the other end, Knowle squandered several chances.
Although United pass the ball about nicely in mid-field, they had precious little to offer up front. The men in their away blues on the other hand, caused United’s defence trouble every time they ventured into enemy territory.
Knowle got off to a dream start. From kick-off, the ball was quickly moved forward for Burston-Keeley to steal in behind the defender and score with ease.
This was a good win for The Robins after the defeat last Saturday by Littleton, and it gets their promotion push back on track. The match was never a spectacle, but it was fascinating with two of the best sides in Capelli Sports Midland Football League Division Two on show. There is little doubt that the best team won.
The only worry for the Knowle management team is the awful conversion ratio of chances to goals. Fifteen shots on target formed just two goals, plus another six that were off-target. They will be comforted in the fact that their incredibly strong defence once again kept the valuable clean-sheet.
Next Saturday, Knowle take the short trip to face Earlswood Town, never an easy fixture.
