Ronald Crane reports from The Colliery
Was it the bumpy playing surface? Was it the disjointed nature of the First-Half? Was it losing Jack Duggan after just three minutes? It was none of these. The reason the Robins did not win this game was simply that they created a host of chances, but did not take one of them.
Knowle were on top throughout the match, superior in every department except goal scoring. Especially in the first half, Knowle were totally dominant. Chances came, and chances went. Even with an unguarded goal, they could not finish even from inside the six-yard box.
The second half was an anti-climax. Knowle seemed to have gone off the boil, and although Coventrians came into the game, their play was restricted to mid-field. They had precious little to offer up front.
This was in marked contrast to the first-half. With just three minutes on the clock, Jack Duggan sank to the ground with hamstring trouble, to be replaced by Zak Parsons. On ten minutes the match was stopped for dog faeces to be removed. The home side had to replace Blackhall on twenty minutes, and there were numerous other disruptions to play. None of this helped, but none of these stoppages caused Knowle players to squander so many chances. By the time we reached the break Knowle ought to have been out of sight.
Apart from the defence, which was as solid as ever and denied the home side from ever seriously troubling Oscar Slater in goal, in mid-field and up front, Knowle were well below par.
In addition to Jack Duggan’s injury, Zak Parsons and George Seeley have gone to hospital. Zak has a nasty cut on his foot, while George is suffering from a sprained ankle.
Knowle FC: Slater; Taylor (Stone); Powell; Duggan (Parsons)(Purves); Dudley; T Scott (c); Shimul; Drake-Cervantes; Barnes; G Seeley (c) (Corry); Burston-Keeley (Craine)
