Yesterday (Saturday 18th May 2019), U7 Panthers went to the Hampton tournament still reeling from being knocked out in the semis of the Silhills tournament the previous weekend (despite winning 5 games, drawing 2 and conceding only 1 goal!)
And it didn't start well... after 3 mins they went 1 0 down to a strong Solihull Moors team.. how will they react?
In a manner that has gained this team a fantastic reputation this season, Knowle showed determination and some beautiful football, to come back and win 2 1 (goals from Charlie and Edward).. we then went on top the group beating Glades and Hampton both 5 0, Coldland Colts 1 0 and Bromsgrove Sporting 2 0 with goals from Charlie x4, Edward x4, Josh, Jacob x3, Tomi x2 and William.
This set up a tricky tie against Arden Forest in a tense semi final.. however, again, the team produced some scintillating football and 2 fantastic goals from Caiden Winning 2 0.
On to the final and it was Solihull Moors again - Moors who had gone on to beat every other team heavily before beating Hampton on penalties in the semi..
It was a topsy turvy final. Knowle played some great football but just couldn't find the net as Moors looked to hit on the break - Josh in goal making a good save to save us at one point..
So on to pens.. up steps Caiden and, over the bar. It wasn't to happen again was it? Moors step up and Josh saves. Edward steps up and smashes his pen top corner before Moors score an equally good pen. Jacob steps up and also finds the corner... Moors step up and Josh produces the save that wins knowle the cup... queue wild celebrations and relief from the parents and managers alike.. a horrible way to lose so all credit to Moors but Knowle thoroughly deserved it..
So the 18/19.season ended on a high.. this was the Panthers' third trophy (having won winter and spring cups) whilst in the league they played 21, won 17 and drew 1 losing only 3 scoring 158 goals in the process - top scorer Jacob getting 48! And player of the season William helping them towards a +104 goal difference. All of the players were fantastic and played their part as you only get these results with a team, not a group of individuals, so a big shout out to:-
Jacob
Edward
William
Elijah
Charlie
Tomi
Josh
Caiden
On to under 8s... can knowle keep up this form? Watch this space..
