Ronald Crane reports from The Draintech Community Ground.
Twelve minutes from the end of this match, with The Robins well in control and strolling to victory, a freak accident caused Jacob Walton to receive a nasty gash on the back of his head. He was taken to hospital, but allowed home after having the wound glued up. This is a relief to all concerned as, at the time, the injury looked more serious.
Before the game, Knowle knew the size of their task in the coming weeks. Four games to play, and four wins will see them crowned Champions. They were therefore well up for putting this game to bed early. The afternoon began with Knowle taking the match in their stride, however after ten minutes, Alvis had their best spell. This came to an and when Jack Mullen benefited from good work by George Seeley to put The Robins ahead.
Just before the break, Nathan Corry doubled the lead. A cross from the right was headed back across the area, and even a desperate defensive kick could not stop the goal, the ball already having crossed the line.
The second half was one-way traffic. That the Robins did not score more is thanks to heroic efforts by Alvis’ Goalkeeper Alfie Pyott who pulled off a series of top class saves. For the rest, it was a case of Knowle would not, and Alvis could not, although to their credit, they never gave up and continued to try and get forward.
The Robins are in action again on the May Day Bank Holiday Monday 1st May 2023 when they travel to Lane Head for a MFL Division Two match. Lane Head may be in a relegation battle, but Stowe Street in Walsall is never an easy place to go and play football. Kick Off is at 1500.
