Ronald Crane reports from The Draintech Community Ground.
Another match in April, another midweek early kick off - this was never going to be a classic. As it turned out it was all rather frenetic, with loads of mistakes.
The Robins began well enough and took the lead through a good header by George Seeley. But as time wore on Cadbury came into the game, and although the home defence held firm until the half hour mark, the visitors did even the score when Brooks turned home a cross.
The home defence continued to be under pressure, and conceded a penalty, only for Craig Johnson to save brilliantly.
After the break, matters became even more frenetic, if that were possible. The game was really end to end in cup tie fashion, but without end product. The Robins ought to have taken the lead early in the second-half when Corry sent over a peach of a cross from the right, it found Mullen in the six yard box, but as he went to tap home, a vicious bobble sent the ball over the bar.
For the rest of the match, neither ‘keeper had a really difficult save to make, although, Johnson did punch clear on a couple of occasions and McCardle made a fine block late on. At the end, a draw was a fair result, neither side deserved to lose. Athletic are, as Clive Seeley had said prior to the game, a really good side. The Robins backline did very well to keep the scores even.
