Ronald Crane reports from the Draintech Community Ground.
Following the abject defeat at the hands of Alcester Town last Saturday, The Robins bounced back in style against Division new boys Coventrians at Hampton Road.
Coventrians gave a spirited performance. They have some good players, yet lacked cohesion and played as a group of individuals rather than a team. Also the pace, physicality and know-how of Division Two left them short. Yet, they started brightly enough and forced the first save. None the less, it was The Robins who were on top for the majority of the match.
It took the visitors twenty minutes to find their feet, and when they did, it was The Robins who upped their game. Just after the half-hour mark, a Knowle corner was fiercely headed home by Ben Jones. Two minutes later, Jones turned provider and fed Jay Rendell to double the score.
The second half was a totally different game. The Robins were content to allow their visitors to have the ball, safe in the knowledge that their defence would cope with whatever Coventrians threw at them. The visitors had plenty of possession and spent much time in the home half of the park, yet could not manage a single shot on target in the whole second forty-five minutes.
As we entered the final third of the match Jay Rendell doubled his personal tally from eighteen yards, and sixteen minutes from time, George Seeley added a fourth. Coventrians were a defeated team, yet one feels they will improve and hold their own in the Division.
