Ronald Crane reports from Alvis Sports & Social Club:
A heavy pitch with long grass did not deter The Robins. They set about their task with gusto, none more so than new-boy Connor Mort. He grabbed his Hat-Trick in just twenty-seven minutes.
The first came about when Barnes and Mort beat the off-side trap, for Mort to bemuse keeper Walton and open the scoring. The second was a peach of a shot from a wide angle on the Robins’ left that left the man in Alvis’ goal no chance. The third was a beautiful goal, scored when Mort headed home a Knowle corner from the right.
From this moment on Alvis heads dropped and although Jagit Aujla did his best and led by example to raise things, it was a lost cause.
Indeed, Mort could have – should have – made it four when he again beat the off-side to be clear on goal, only for his effort to be wide with only Walton to beat.
The second half was something of an anticlimax, not surprising really. The impressive Odane Barnes sent the ball on to Jay Rendell who had the simplest of chances to make it four. With twelve minutes to go, Jack Mullen added a fifth.
This was a comprehensive victory on a difficult and heavy pitch. Alvis did not manage a single shot on target for the whole of the game. Everyone who represented The Robins did their job, and did it well, with Conner Mort the shining star.
