Ronald Crane reports from Bournville
This match kicked off 15 minutes late as the three officials were themselves late. It turned out to be a very tough match. Athletic were a team, all working for each other, Knowle a group of individuals. Only Reece Hewitt showed the energy, skill and determination required. He deserved better.
Within two minutes of the start Knowle were in front courtesy of an own goal by Athletic’s Shaw. It was to be the visitors only joy. Athletic knew far too much for the Robins. The visitors were bullied, and harassed to the extent that they were second best in every department.
All the goals came in the first half when Athletic were totally dominant. Jeson Dinanga scored twice and Bourn once.
In the second period, the home side were content to frustrate their visitors, which they did magnificently well.
It was a tetchy afternoon in many ways, but the Seeleys in the managerial seat at The Robin’s Nest will know that their side surrendered the mid-field and therefore the match very easily. They will expect better in coming matches.
