The Robins’ cruised to their eighth league win on the trot on Saturday afternoon. In that time the boys in red have scored thirty-one goals, conceding just one. Although Knowle were on top throughout, Villa never gave up, and right to the final whistle they were striving for that elusive goal. It was not to be.
That said, early on there was an almighty mix-up in the home penalty area. Craig Johnson made a tremendous effort to save the day. It was as near to a goal as Villa would come.
For the most part, it was Knowle who had possession and territory. Yet even when out of possession, Knowle were on top form.
Jay Rendell grabbed his goal with a great strike from twelve yards. Just after the thirty-minute mark, Nathan Corry put the finishing touch to the second ball following a Knowle free kick from distance.
Although, for the main, it was one-way traffic, there were far too many mistakes for the Knowle management to be completely satisfied. Even so, eleven minutes after the re-start, Tom Craine headed home to make it three. It was a reward that his over-all play richly deserved. Indeed, he was nominated the home side’s Man of the Match.
With the game petering out, and Villa still striving for that goal, Nathan Corry put icing on the Knowle cake with his second goal at the hour point, albeit helped by a hefty deflection.
Afterwards, Knowle Joint Manager Clive Seeley told me how pleased he was with the performance, the result, and the attendance. With all members of the squad firing on all cylinders he and his fellow manager have selection problems. There are problems most managers long to have.
