Ronald Crane reports from Hampton Road
It is thanks to the hard work of the Knowle ground staff that this match could go ahead. With rain and the edges of Storm Ciaran about, they made sure this match would survive. Referee Mr Betteridge had no hesitation in declaring the pitch fit for play.
The match was heavily one-sided as the visitors found the going really tough. Their front runners were living on scraps, the mid-field overrun, and the defence fully stretched. Yet they continued to try their best to gain a foothold on the match. Alas it was not to be. The Robins were in total ascendency.
It took The Robins just six minutes to take the lead. Jay Rendell’s shot was blocked and Toby Scott put the rebound into the net. Six minutes later Tom Craine doubled the score. However, the goal deluge did not follow. Sixteen shots on target could only produce these two goals in the first forty five minutes, a point I am sure Matthew Seeley made loud and clear at half-time.
Whatever was said in the home dressing room at half-time, it had effect. Inkberrow did start the second half with renewed resolve, but it was quickly snuffed out. Lewis Clarke headed home Dylon Bennett’s corner with the second period just five minutes old.
On the two occasions when Inkberrow did manage to progress into The Robins’ area, Rob Shaw produced tackles of the highest quality. There was no room for error, any mistake on his part would have resulted in a penalty.
On sixty eight minutes, Jay Rendell received a superb pass from Adam Bourn to open his account for the day. Four minutes later he doubled his tally. Seventeen minutes from the close Tom Craine converted the Penalty awarded for a foul on Liam O’Donnell. As if that were not enough, Adam Bourn made it seven. This was a just reward for his high work rate and effort.
Next Game: On Saturday 11th November, Knowle travel to Redditch Borough in the MFL.
