Ronald Crane reports from Camp Farm.
Both these sides were depleted with absentees because of injury and unavailability. Consequently, the match lost a sense of excitement. It was, to be frank, a rather dull affair, It took the visitors twenty-two minutes to open the scoring, Ben Jones hitting the net from eighteen yards.
New-boy, Mike Jennings added a second, proffiting from a peach of a pass from Dylon Bennett. With the clock on thirty minutes it was all over, Jacob Walton grabbing the first of his two goals.
This goal highlighted the problem of only having one official, relying on clubs to provide the Assistants. To my eye, there was a clear off-side in the build up the third Knowle goal. But the flag went up, and was immediately taken down, therefore the goal stood.
From that moment, the result was never really in doubt. Jet Blades did their level best. They tried to play football, but their visitors knew too much. In skill, tactics, fitness, and quality, the gap between the sides was at least three goals. Yet the final score did flatter the Robins somewhat.
In mid-field Knowle were in total control, with a secure defence and Charlie Morris having the free-reign of the flanks, this was a comprehensive victory. Blades did their level best, and never gave in, but the result was never going to favour them.
The second-half dragged on rather. Knowle content with their lead, and Jet Blades unable to do anything about it. Insult was added to the home side’s injury with five minutes to go when a real mix up in defence allowed Walton to score his second and Knowle’s fourth.
